This probably sounds weird, but I usually look forward to Lent every year.
Yep, I’m a sorority girl. If someone were to have told me five years ago that I would be in a sorority, I probably would not have believed them.
At my school, formal sorority recruitment is in the fall. I wasn’t that interested in Greek life when I arrived as a freshman, so I joined a bunch of other clubs like the literary magazine, professional organizations and the like. But as my freshman year progressed, I felt as though something was…missing. I decided to go through spring recruitment just to see what it was all about, and I received a bid from Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
When I first joined, I really did not know what I was getting myself into. I knew that there were philanthropy events, socials and chapter meetings, but I did not realize how much work was put into the sorority.
I also did not realize that I would be meeting some of my best friends.
I hope you all had a great Valentine’s Day!
I am not actually “lovesick” like the title of this post might lead you to believe; I just started to get a cold on Valentine’s Day.
I’ll try to post mostly healthy recipes if I write about food, but I have to share one of my favorite desserts: apple bars. (At least apples are healthy.)
This recipe is a big hit among my roommates. I have been known to make these a 1 a.m. on a Saturday night, and sometimes they are gone within 24 hours. Even when I only had one egg on hand instead of two, people still ate all of them.
Right next to my bed, I have a piece of paper with the following phrases written in brightly colored Sharpies:
“Wake up! You won’t regret it.” “Don’t sleep your life away.” “You can sleep when you’re dead.”
I do this because I have the unpopular opinion that mornings are the best time of the day.
But believe me, I never had thought that way until recently.
I had always liked the idea of having a blog, so today I decided that I was going to sit down and create a blog. I suppose it’s a late New Year’s resolution. But unlike average, overrated New Year’s resolutions, I am going to make time to write at least once per week.
I suppose I started this blog because one of my current goals is to enjoy life more. I feel like I am constantly making myself busy between classes, meetings and homework. It is important, I have learned, to make the most of every day. That includes taking time to reflect and also to have some fun.
Writing has always been one of my passions. In Kindergarten, I would write a “story” for my teacher every day when I arrived at school. In high school, I wrote 2.5 novels that were about 50,000 words each. Most recently, I have developed an interest in songwriting, after taking piano lessons for eight years and playing multiple instruments in band. Perhaps blogging will be my fun, new writing obsession.
With The Fake Housewife, I aim to write interesting blogs from which I think others will be able to learn as well. Visit the About page to learn more about me. Happy reading!
